In instances where someone, particularly a child, is considered at risk of harm from themselves or others, this confidentially guideline would be lifted and a disclosure may be necessary.

Clients attending teletherapy agree to arrange sessions in confidential settings, where they will not be overheard or interrupted.

Safety

It is important that clients are resilient enough to engage in relationship counselling and all sessions, particularly an initial session, will include routine risk assessment. As relationship counselling can be challenging, it is important that clients are resilient enough to engage in the process and in some instances ongoing counselling is not recommended.

It may be appropriate to offer a referral to alternative mental health professionals in instances where assessments bring up concerns about a client’s wellbeing.

Where clients are affected by or responsible for behaviours that are considered violent or abusive, it would not always be considered safe to engage in relationship therapy.

Your counsellor has the right to cease counselling, particularly if the conduct of a client or client material is considered inappropriate.

Assessment

Initial sessions are an opportunity for assessment, to explore suitability for future sessions.

Any information provided will be stored confidentially and securely.

It will not be possible to engage in therapy unless clients are able to attend regular sessions in suitable confidential settings for therapy.

Your counsellor reserves the right to refuse relationship counselling, or bring sessions to a close, if it is felt that what is needed sits outside the limits of their competency or would be unbeneficial or not constructive.

Complaints

On occasion counselling can feel challenging and feelings of defensiveness or confusion are natural. This is a big part of change.

It can be helpful to talk about it and work through the feelings. If at any time the work feels unhelpful or if something feels too overwhelming; please do speak to Isobel. You can talk openly about anything. Your feelings are important and the service is committed to excellence within the scope of the clinical framework. It is always possible to revisit the contract agreement.

Steps will always be taken to strive towards best practise for your individual needs. It's important the client:counsellor fit is right for you and at any point in the work sessions can be brought to a close. If the fit does not feel right, alternative support can also be recommended without ill will. On these occasions no reports for future practitioners are provided due to strict confidentiality laws.

Punctuality

Being on time for an appointment is important as very often there will be no room for additional time given the arrangements with other clients.
